Elijah is an American actor and producer. He made his film debut with a small role in Back to the Future Part II (1989). Elijah gained professional attention when he played Aidan Quinn’s son in Avalon – an acclaimed film that was nominated for four Academy Awards.
Elijah is best known for his role as the hobbit Frodo Bagger in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy – a series of fantasy films that includes The Lord of the Rings (2001), The Lord of the Two Towers (2002) and The Return of the King (2003). The film adaptations are based on J.R.R Tolkien’s novel The Lord of the Rings and directed by Peter Jackson. The films about The Lord of the Rings have been nominated for 30 Oscars, of which they have won 17 (which is a record for a film trilogy).
After the success of The Lord of the Rings, Elijah was among other things in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 2005. He is also in the film Green Street and the first film in the Hobbit trilogy, again directed by Peter Jackson.
