THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING follows sixteen-year-old Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada) from District 12—the future mentor to Katniss and Peeta. The story begins on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the second “Quarter Quell”—the largest Games to date, featuring twice as many tributes.

Set in Panem 24 years before the events of the original Katniss Everdeen trilogy, the story follows Haymitch into the arena. There, he forms an unexpected alliance with fellow tribute Maysilee Donner (Mckenna Grace) and joins a group determined to challenge the power of the Capitol under President Snow (Ralph Fiennes). As the competition unfolds, Haymitch risks everything to disrupt the Games from within the arena, igniting an uprising that will change Panem forever.

THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING is based on Suzanne Collins’ bestselling 2025 novel. The cast also includes Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. The film is produced by Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and Francis Lawrence, with a screenplay by Billy Ray and Michael Lesslie.
